One of the oldest cities in India, Dehradun is encrusted with gems like a sparkling diamond amid the lower Himalayan mountain ranges. Dehradun is surrounded by tall mountains and luxuriant Sal forests, lying in the gently sloping Doon Valley at the foothills of the Himalayas.

The city is the centre of education for northern India; it is home to illustrious institutions and a wonderful synthesis of intriguing mythology and fascinating history. There are many caverns, waterfalls, and freshwater springs in Dehradun.

The Gandhi Park of Dehradun stands out among all these places. This beautifully landscaped park, which bears the name of the Father of the Nation, is today a well-known tourist destination in Dehradun.

It is the oldest park in Dehradun and is located in the centre of Dehradun, close to the Paltan Market and the Ghanta Ghar (clock tower).

About Gandhi Park of Dehradun

The Gandhi Park of Dehradun is a large garden with big trees and lush grass. It has a gorgeous landscape, flowers, and several kinds of bushes.

The park serves as a jogging, fitness, and yoga area for the locals. The kids can play on the swings available. It is a great park to walk in the morning and the evening.

#Trivia: The Mahatma Gandhi statue was unveiled on November 12, 2001, by Uttarakhand's Chief Minister, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, just one year after the state of Uttarakhand was established.

Kids can enjoy train rides, Mickey Mouse bounce houses, trampolines, merry-go-rounds, car and bike rides, aeroplane rides, etc. The main attraction of this location is the toy train. This toy train has 5 bogies that can accommodate 30 kids at once and travels along a 1400-foot long track. In addition to the toy railroad, a helicopter ride is the kids' favourite.

Parade Ground, Gandhi Park, and Pavilion Ground shared the same space at first. Later, the pavilion ground was split and then the parade field, and the three were each developed separately.

Mahatma Gandhi's birth and martyrdom are listed on a special white marble board inside Gandhi Park. In 1951, Shri Aatmaram Gaur gave this marble to Shri Keshav Chand.

At the time, Shri Keshav Chand served as the Dehradun Municipal Council's commissioner. Thus, this park predates the independence of India.

#Trivia: It was renamed Gandhi Park after the death of Mahatma Gandhi.
